Life Story / Obituary

William “Bill” Parker went home to be with the Lord this past week on Wednesday May 29th.

Dad was a member of Central Wesleyan Church since 1964. For the first time in many years Dad is undoubtedly 100 % healthy and even able to hear without the use of hearing aids. The Bible describes Heaven as Paradise, and to Dad that means God has both a wood working shop and a golf course, right now he is probably practicing his swing, just waiting for the day in the future that he can challenge his little brother once again on those heavenly fairways.

Dad is survived by his wife and his love of 64 years, Jan (Vriezema) Parker, Four sons and their families Royce and Lori Parker, Kurt and Tracy Parker, Mark and Leann Parker, Craig and Amy Parker. 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. As well as his brother Ted Parker and brother in-law Leon Slikkers.

While on this earth Dad found great pleasure in serving at church, whether it was as a Sunday school teacher, an usher, on the church board or on a building committee… Dad did it with a servants heart.

Dad retired in 2005 after 50 years building boats, working for both Slick Craft and S2 / Tiara Yachts.

Dad left a legacy for his children and grandchildren of a Christian, of a servant, of a loving father and of a strong work ethic.

Dad will be missed, but we know we will see him again one day.

Funeral services will be at 1 pm Saturday (June 8) at Central Wesleyan Church (Main Sanctuary), 446 West 40th Street (Please use entrance A or I), with Rev. Lynn Bruce officiating. Burial will be in East Holland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday (June 7) at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street.
