Wesley Sievert, age 90, of Holland, passed away peacefully on December 10.

He was born on June 5, 1934, in Joliet, Illinois to Edward and Merna (Alexander) Sievert.

Wes is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of 66 years, daughter Lori (Jon) Sanders of Hamilton, granddaughters Kara (Ryan) Fisher and Kelli (Pat) Foster, both of Hamilton, and six great-grandchildren; Melanie (Daniel), Hannah, Emily, Leah, Joshua and Lily. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Dolores Barenz, three nieces: Barb, Janice and Janine and families in Illinois.

Wes was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob, and his best buddy and brother-in-law, Will Barenz.

After graduating from Joliet Township High School, he enlisted and served four years in the Air Force, working on cameras on airplanes. Upon returning home Wes married and began working at a local lumber yard in Mokena, Illinois before moving his family to Fennville in the mid-70s where he oversaw the construction phase of Fenn Valley Vineyards. Upon leaving Fenn Valley he worked at the local hardware store while growing his woodworking business out of his garage and extensive wood shop. After doing many remodels to get started, he segued into building beautiful custom furniture for his customers and his family. His talents can be seen in homes and churches throughout the area. In later years he took up carving as a hobby.

While Wes loved to work with his hands, his first loves were his God and his family. He strived to be a good role model and to live his life the way God instructed. You would often see him helping at Fennville United Methodist Church in many capacities, which was his church for 50 years. The church’s cross, of which Wes designed and crafted, is a representation of his God-given talent and devotion.

A memorial service will be held at Fennville United Methodist Church, 5849 124th Avenue, Fennville, MI 49408 on Saturday, January 11 at 11:00am. Visiting with the family will take place an hour prior to the service.

A light lunch will be served afterward at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to Fennville United Methodist Church or Hospice of Holland. A private burial service will take place at Fort Custer in the spring. Arrangements are by Dykstra Funeral Homes-Mulder Chapel.
