Life Story / Obituary
Wallace David McCarvill, 84, of Fennville passed away Saturday July 30, 2016 at
Holland Hospital.
Affectionately known as “Big Wally” because of his 6’6” stature, he
was lovingly surrounded by both his daughters when he met his Lord and Savior.
Born in the Bronx, New York City, Wally attended Iona College on a full basketball
scholarship. He was 5th in the nation in rebounding during his senior year. He
thereafter played ball for the United States Marine Corps and achieved the rank of
1st Lt. Following an Honorable Discharge he was drafted by the New York Knicks
however injured a knee in training camp. He worked in sales for Tidewater Oil
Company, Tuck Tape, and eventually became Vice President and co-owner of Farnol
Paper Company.
Wally was an avid golfer, and water enthusiast, winning the Detroit Athletic Club’s
coveted President’s Trophy as high scorer for the DAC Beavers. He loved to deer
hunt in northern Michigan, enjoyed single malt scotch, and attending services at his
beloved Crossing in Chesterfield, Missouri.
He is survived by his children, Mary Margaret McCarvill of Saugatuck, Michigan and
Elizabeth Ann Burns also of Saugatuck; grandchildren David Alden Kizer of Salt Lake
City, Utah, Kathryn Alden Kizer of Washington, D.C, and Monica Elizabeth Burns of
Tucson, Arizona.
A memorial celebration will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, please
