Virginia Strabbing DeWent, 96, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2021. She was born in Fennville, Michigan on November 15, 1925 to Earl and Elta Gretzinger. She graduated from Fennville Public Schools. After graduating Virginia went to work in Holland, Michigan where a handsome train engineer, Alvin Strabbing, caught her eye as he was moving trains around outside the building she worked in. They married on April 7, 1947 and settled in Holland where they raised two sons, Ronald and Kenneth. Alvin preceded her in death in 1982. In 1984 Virginia married Wayne DeWent. They enjoyed 27 years of marriage before his death in 2011. Virginia was a long-time member of Trinity Reformed Church in Holland. Virginia is survived by her sons, Ronald (Betty) Strabbing and Kenneth (Linda) Strabbing, her grandchildren: Tracy (Craig) Zoerner, Erin (Michael) Alderink, and Ryan Strabbing, her great-grandchildren: Anna and Evan Zoerner, and Megan and Lauren Alderink, as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Hamilton, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to one’s choice. Arrangements are by the Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel.
