Vesta Lucille Speet, age 94, of Holland, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012 in Resthaven Care Center in Holland.

Vesta was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Speet on June 15, 1997 and her daughter, Shelley Speet Mills on September 15, 1970, and her brother Orlo Barton on June 16, 2002.

Vesta was born on September 22, 1918 in Grand Rapids, MI to Clyde and Lozena (Sterken) Barton. She graduated South High School in 1937. She was a member of Third Reformed Church in Holland. She began working at Heinz as a receptionist and also worked as a Realtor in the Holland community from 1974 to 1980. Vesta was also active in the Women’s Literary Club, Civic Health, the Reformed Church Women for Christian Service, and the American Business Woman’s Association.

She is survived by her children, Tom and Netha (Warner) Speet of West Olive, Kirtland and Candy (Barber)

Speet of Houston, TX; her son-in-law, William Mills of Muskegon; her four grandchildren, Kirtland Speet II, Carrie and Zachary Shields, Tiffany Speet, Lindsey Lehman; her great-grandchildren, Kirtland Speet III, Gerritt Speet, Zoom Shields, and Zain Shields; her sister-in-law, Arlene Barton; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from noon to 1pm on Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Northwood Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Northwood Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Homes, 295 Douglas Avenue with Rev. William Unzicker officiating.

Burial will take place in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
