Tamela (Tammie) Jean Van Hekken was born in Holland, MI September 10, 1957, to Gerald and Marcia (Vande Water) Van Hekken.
A veteran of the U.S. Army she then went on to receive her Associates Degree of Arts and Sciences and her Bachelor Degree of Arts.
Tammie enjoyed reading, sewing, crafting, and going to conventions and Renaissance Faires with her daughter Elizabeth and her son-in-law Chris.
Tammie had worked at Freedom Village since 1997, up until her death.
She was preceded in death by her mother Marcia Jean (Vande Water) Van Hekken.
She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth(Chris) Leiby, brother Terry (Elaine) Van Hekken, sister Tracy (Mark) Hamstra, niece and nephews, and her father Gerald Van Hekken, and her beloved cat Ghost.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Dykstra Funeral Homes - Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street in Holland. Pastor Derek Carpenter will be officiating.
Visitation will be from 12:00-12:45 pm prior to the service at the chapel.
Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
