Susan Clawson

Susan Clawson, age 70, entered into peaceful rest on June 17, 2013 at her home in Holland.

Born to Clemente and Irene Santos on November 30, 1942, in Fannin, TX. After growing up in Edinburg, TX, the family settled in Michigan in 1950. As an adult, Susan went back to school and received her High School diploma.

Susan moved to Holland in 1970 and worked at K-Line Tools for 2 years. She was hired at Donnelly Corporation in 1972 and retired with 30 years of service in 2002 from Magna-Donnelly.

Susan’s first love was her family. She had three beautiful children, Diana, Marcella and Rick with her first husband, Hector Canales. They divorced in 1970 and she re-married four years later to Dale Clawson and later gave birth to her fourth child, Sarah Clawson.

She enjoyed helping to plan family reunions with her family. The first reunion was in 1991 to celebrate her twin sister’s 50th birthday. The next was in Houston, TX in 1996, and then here in Holland at the Fish and Game Club in 2000.

As a young mother, Susan loved to bake from scratch. She also canned her own vegetables from her garden. Her taste in music ranged from Chubby Checker to Johnny Mathis, & various rock n’ roll artists. Susan loved to dance as a young woman and taught her younger sister Ester how to do the Twist.

Susan had a knack for remembering everyone’s birthdays, sending cards to her children, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews whenever she was able to do so. She loved spending time with her family and was especially fond of her four grandchildren.

Susan was outgoing, sociable, and loved to meet new people. She had many good work friends and church friends through the years and many new friends with her neighbors at the Village of Appledorn. She will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by her children: Diana Canales, Marcella Canales and husband Brian Johnson, Rick Canales, Sarah Clawson all of Holland; grandchildren: Eric Slenk, Lauren Slenk, Brandon Johnson and Hunter Johnson; brothers and sisters: Rebecca Galvan of Holland, MI, Jose Santos of Kalamazoo, MI, Rosa Leal of Houston, TX, Lydia Guerra and Javier Sotelo of Holland, MI, Lucia Arredondo of Humble, TX, Hilaria Estrada of Frost Proof, FL, Clemente Santos of Vincennes, IN, Nasario Santos of Humble, TX, Elida and Juan Mares-Nino of Holland, MI, Norma and Mike Davis of Auburndale, FL; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Christ Memorial Chapel 595 Graafschap Road in Holland.

Reverend Luis Ruiz will be officiating.

Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM, Friday, June 21, 2013 at Mulder Chapel – Dykstra Funeral Homes 188 West 32nd Street in Holland.
