Life Story / Obituary
Susan Rene Dalman of Zeeland, age 69, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan following a brief illness. Sue was born on June 12, 1955, in Flint, Michigan to Geraldine (Schleuter) and Harold Gillihan.
Sue was the cherished wife of 40 years to Michael and the best mother in the world to Lindsay Dalman; Mallory & Joshua Dalman-Hoeve; Abrianna Dalman & Aaron Chavis. Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her beloved grandchildren: Nicole and Emelia Dalman; Gideon, Georgia, and Viola Jaymes Dalman-Hoeve; and the eagerly anticipated Baby Girl Chavis expected in November. Sue is also loved and remembered by Robbie & Larry Diekman, McKenzie Weeks, and Wyatt Diekman. Known affectionately as “Mimi,” Sue embraced her role as grandmother with such intense joy. Her grandkids knew if mom said no, there was a good chance Mimi would say yes. She filled her home with love, magic, and endless snacks. Mimi always had time for the people she loved and never missed a chance to cheer on her precious babies.
Sue was dedicated to her community. She took pride in everything she did and found great satisfaction from her role at Holland Charter Township. She loved the spring when her flowers graced her deck and yard. Sue & Mike enjoyed many hands of cards and gatherings with their friends.
Sue is also survived by her siblings Steven & Shirley Gillihan and Christine & John Schade, her in-laws James & Mollie Dalman, Dave & Cheryl Dalman, and Mary Dalman as well as many nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Robert Bausack and her parents—Harold Gillihan (and his wife Phyllis) and Geraldine Pontegele (and her husband Fred), as well as by her mother and father-in-law, Harold and Viola Dalman.
Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched with kindness, strength, and unwavering love.
Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Faith Reformed Church, 220 West Central Avenue, with Rev. Jonathan Elgersma officiating. The service will be live-streamed at https://faithzeeland.org/watch-listen/. A luncheon will follow the service. Burial will be in Zeeland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Tuesday at the church.
