Steve was born May 8,1964 to Warner and Frayna De Leeuw. The youngest of 13 children Steve completed their family. Steve shared a unique loving relationship with each one of his siblings. He grew up in a loving Christian home and raised his own family that same way. Steve’s passion for the Lord was an inspiration to us all.

Helping others was a trait of Steve’s that he exhibited at a very young age, always wanting to help his mother. From organizing the construction of many habitat homes, to helping his neighbors with small chores, he was known as the “go to guy” for everything. Another love of Steve’s was anything on wheels that went fast. That included helping the church with the Pinewood Derby Car Program and helping many children with their cars.

Steve graduated in 1982 from Holland Christian High School and then attended Grand Valley State University while working for his dad at De Leeuw Lumber Company. He later became an owner along with his brothers in the business. Steve had a strong work ethic and gained the respect of many people that he dealt with in the community.

In 1993 he married Lori Taylor, whom he loved and adored. They began their family in 1996 with the birth of their son Luke, followed by son Logan in 1998. Steve embraced his role as husband and father with the same passion as his love of racing.

Steve’s racing career started at a young age. At 21, he directed that passion to mud racing which he put on hiatus after meeting Lori. When his son Luke developed a passion for racing, they spent quality father son time working together on “Bodacious” and on Luke’s car, “Son uva Bodacious”. Soon after that, they started racing their cars and attending races as a family with his wife Lori and son Logan.

They also spent many summer days up at the family cottage, “Big Kahauna Beach” in Silver Lake racing at the sand drags, riding in the sand dunes and making numerous trips to Craig’s Cruisers. Steve always wanted to make sure everyone got to experience the excitement and love he had for the Silver Lake area.

We are devastated at losing him so suddenly. Even though his life work is over and he has gone on to his heavenly home, our comfort lies in knowing we will be with him in heaven someday. Knowing Steve has been a blessing to us all.

John 14: 1-3

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am”.
