Stanley Van Slooten, age 74, a long time resident of West Olive, passed away at his home on Thursday May 4, 2017. He was born on June 24, 1942. Stan was number twelve of thirteen children. Stanley served his country faithfully as a Soldier in the United States Army. He served in the Vietnam war where he met his loving wife of 47 years, Kim (The Thi) Van Slooten.

Stan and Kim were blessed with 2 children, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. His family was his life. He often spent time with his brothers and sisters playing cards and bingo at Grandma’s house on Sundays. Stan loved spending time with his family doing the activities he enjoyed most; fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, weekends up at the Pondarosa and later on School Section Lake. Many knew him as "Pee Wee". He was funny and loved to entertain his grandkids with silly faces and stories. There was no question, everyone who knew Stan loved him dearly.

Stan is survived by his beloved wife Kim; daughter; Samantha (Craig), son; Jim (Veola); sisters, Betty (Ron), Peggy, Joyce; brother, Jack; brother in law; Richard; grandchildren, Alex, Cordell, Dominique, Brielle, Emily, Anthony, Sara; 3 Great Grandchildren.

Mr. Van Slooten was preceded in death by his parents; Christian and Anna Van Slooten; brothers, Bob (Delores), Glen (Carol); sisters, Vila (Pete), Vivian (Gordon), Myrt (Joe), Nelli (Paul), Barb, Elsie (Don); brother in-law, Art; sister in-law, Sharla.

A funeral ceremony to honor and celebrate Mr. Van Slooten's life will take place at 11a.m. Tuesday May 9, at Harlem Reformed Church, 6854 144th Ave, Holland. A public visitation will be held the night prior, Monday May 8, at Harlem Reformed Church from 5-8p.m. The Reverend John Nyitray will officiate the funeral ceremony. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
