Shirley Mae (Everse) Overway, age 89, of Holland, Michigan, entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, October 24, 2021, after a lengthy illness. Shirley was born on February 12, 1932, in Grandville, Michigan to Ted and Margaret Everse. The family moved to Holland in 1939, where Shirley resided until her passing. She is a graduate of the Holland High School Class of 1949. Later, In 1971 she began working as the secretary of Pine Creek Elementary School and, until her retirement in 1998, she recognized most students and parents by name.

Shirley is predeceased by her parents, two brothers (Lyle Everse and Harlan Everse) and her son, Craig Overway, who embraced his mom as she entered heaven’s gates. She is survived by her son Keith and his wife Dawn Overway, of Holland, and her daughter, Kristi (Overway) and her husband Tom Aycock, of Ada. She was blessed with grandchildren Ashley, Shelby, Madison, Ciera, Benjamin, Leslie, Heather, Hank and Taylor, along with several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Lee Everse and Lynn Everse, and will be dearly missed by her companion in later years, Wayne Nyboer.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 28, from 5 - 8 pm, at the Dykstra Funeral Home Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue, Holland. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Friday, October 29, at 3 pm, also at the Dykstra Northwood Chapel. She will be laid to eternal rest next to her son Craig, in Grandville Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Resthaven Care Center and Hospice of Holland for the tender loving care given to Shirley before her passing. Those wishing to make a donation in Shirley’s name are asked to consider these two entities.
