Life Story / Obituary
Shawn Trammell, 59, of Holland MI, passed away on May 29th in Fennville MI.
Shawn was born in Dayton OH to Tommie Sampson and William Selmon on March 28th, 1966. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Kent State University where he played football, was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi and built lifelong friendships rooted in teamwork and dedication. His love for sports extended beyond his playing days- he was a passionate supporter of all things Ohio State. Saturdays in the fall were filled with Buckeye pride.
His enthusiasm for athletics was matched only by his love for travel. Whether it was beach vacations with his wife, an up north trip with friends, weekend road trips to a game or a family vacation, he created lasting memories for all who were lucky enough to join him.
Shawn was deeply committed to his community. He found immense joy and purpose in coaching youth sports, especially football and basketball. His years coaching youth were some of his proudest – mentoring young athletes instilling in them the values of hard work, sportsmanship, and perseverance.
He worked as a Production Manager at Perrigo for 23 years.
He will be remembered for his booming personality, his fierce loyalty to his family and friends, his love for Jordan sneakers and the way he lit up a room.
Shawn is survived by loving wife, Sandra Trammell of Holland; parents-in-law, Jose and Conseulo Perez; children, Raven Trammell, Taylor Trammell, Preston Trammell, MacKenzie Trammell, Shawn Trammell JR; grandchildren, Myla Trammell, Kalani Alcantar, Kamila Alcantar and many siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Mother Tommie Sampson, his Father William Selmon and his Aunt Margaret Byars.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, June 5 from 4-6pm at Dykstra Funeral Home - Mulder Chapel, 188 W 32nd Street, Holland. A memorial service will take place on Friday, June 6 at 11:00am at Central Wesleyan Church - Chapel, 446 W 40th Street, Holland with Rev. Andy Fierro officiating.
In honor of his love for sports, guests are encouraged to wear their favorite teams gear – especially if it is scarlet and gray.
Memorial donations may be made to Boys and Girls Club of Holland. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Perrigo and Holland Hospital.
