It is with great sadness that the family of Sally Hogan Horchler (91) announces her passing on Tuesday, February 28. Sally was a resident of Resthaven Care Center in Holland, Michigan.

Sally was born in 1931 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Hugh and Margaret Hogan. She grew up in New Castle, PA where she graduated from New Castle High. She eventually moved to Michigan where she raised her family.

After raising her children, Sally became a business owner and later worked for Kohl’s where she developed many friendships. Sally enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, swimming in the lake and taking walks. One of her passions was reading and she passed that down to her children who are all avid readers. Sally was also a strong advocate for women’s rights and education. She served on the Huron Valley School District’s Board of Education for over 20 years. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed talking politics over a cold beer.

Sally is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Patricia Smith and her husband, Gary; her son Paul Horchler; her daughter Mary Hannes and her husband, Dave; and her daughter, Kathleen Horchler. She is also fondly remembered by her grandson, Kevin Smith, and his wife, Libby; and her granddaughters Valerie Smith, Ella Hannes and Carli Hannes. She was preceded in death by her son, Joe Horchler; her sisters Patricia Horn and Margaret Scheuring; and her brother Thomas Hogan.

Sally requested no funeral service and a family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Resthaven Care Center, 280 West 40th Street, Holland, MI 49423. Sally resided at Resthaven for four years. The staff always demonstrated tremendous care and respect and supported her with great dignity, helping her live as independently as possible. We are very grateful for the entire staff at Resthaven.
