Ruth Carolyn Klein Green (92) passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Appledorn Assisted Living in Holland, Michigan.

She was born in Pella, Iowa to Tunis H. and Cora Van Veen Klein on June 30, 1924. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, the Rev. Harold H. Klein and Earl M. Klein. Her husband, Dr. Lawrence J. Green, died in 1982. He was a professor and long-time coach/trainer and Chairman of the Physical Education Department at Hope College.

Ruth is survived by two sons and a daughter: Gregory (Mary) Green, Jeffrey (Cathy) Green, and Carolyn (Tom) Burns as well as seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Ruth attended public schools and Central College in Pella, Iowa. She was Queen of Pella’s Tulip Time Festival in 1943. Ruth and her husband “Doc” for many years were active members of Hope Church, Hope College, and the Holland community. They shared a love of Hope College—such as chaperoning Greek life formals, attending sporting events, the Gourmet Club, and plays together. Ruth served on the original board for the Holland Day Care Center. She also served on the original committee that encouraged Holland Hospital to implement the Meals on Wheels program. During her working years, she was employed in the Holland office of Blue Cross/Blue Shield and as the receptionist at Western Theological Seminary. She was an active member of the Junior Welfare League, her Hope Church women’s circle, and the Hope Association of Senior Professionals. In recent years Ruth especially appreciated the visits of family and friends. The family would like to thank Appledorn Assisted Living personnel and Keystone Medical Group for their faithful and loving care.

Funeral services will be held at Hope Church, 77 West 11th Street in Holland, Michigan at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017.

Rev. Dr. Carol Bechtel and Rev. Jill Russell will be officiating.
