Ronald Van Ommen was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

On August 19, 1947, Levi and Louise (Terpstra) Van Ommen joyfully welcomed their new son, Ronald, into their lives. Ron lived a happy childhood with his brother and sisters. As a young adult, Ron bravely served in Vietnam with the United States Army, and in recognition of his service, Ron received the Purple Heart. Upon returning home, Ronald began the next exciting phase of his life, and on May 12, 1967, he married the love of his life, Judith Bowerman, at Immanuel Church. In their more than forty years together, Ron and Judy had two daughters, Susan and Beth. Ron loved being a father, and showed great dedication to his family, who were very important to him. Ron was also a hard and dedicated worker. To support his family, Ron worked at Hydro-Bohn Aluminum for over 40 years. He retired in 2007.

During his life, Ron loved to be outdoors, and enjoyed activities like hunting, fishing, and camping. He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for many years, and could build great bonfires. Ron enjoyed traveling with his wife, Judy, in their spare time as well. They especially loved traveling to Mackinaw and St. Ignace area. Ron also loved to cook outdoors, and enjoyed grilling.

On February 21, 2010, at the age of 62, Ron passed away in Holland Hospital. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Levi in 1981 and his mother Louise in 1990, father-in-law William Bowerman in 1990, and a brother-in-law, Bill Bowerman in 2007. Surviving is his wife Judy (Bowerman) of 42 years; daughters, Susan Kuite of Holland and Beth and Brent Mulder of Zeeland; grandchildren, Ashley Kuite and Jorge Bradley, Tyler Kuite, and Alyssa Lopez; great granddaughter, Bella Bradley; mother-in-law, Winifred Bowerman; brother and sisters, Wayne and Nancy Van Ommen, Marla and Robert Rasmussen, and Gwen and Larry Ritsema; in-laws, Jinny and Jack Nash, Randy and Carol Bowerman, and Melissa Bowerman; nephews, nieces, and cousins.
