Robert L. Soriano age 71 of Holland died Wednesday June 4, 2014 at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.

Born in San Antoine, TX., Robert moved to Pontiac, MI. with his family when he was three. In 1960 he graduated from Pontiac High School and in 1973 he received his teaching certificate from Michigan State University. In 1974 he started teaching 6th grade at Federal Elementary School in Holland and later Longfellow Elementary School teaching 4th, 5th and 6th grades until his retirement in 2002.

Robert was a past member of the City Advisory Board, CASA Board member through Hope College, volunteer at Evergreen Commons, Holland City Museum and American Cancer Society as well as a coordinator for a tutoring program for children at Longfellow School partnering with Holland Hospital.

Robert is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol, daughter Roxanne Soriano Lacy of California and grandchildren, Allyson Lacy and Ian Lacy.

He is also survived by his mother in law, Sarah Guizar of Big Rapids and brothers and sisters; Oscar and Jean Taboada of Lansing, MI.,Jesse and Barbara Soriano of Salt Lake City, UT., Frank and Nancy Soriano of Harrington, Del., Roger and Joan Soriano of Seabring, FL., Reuben and Sue Soriano of Lake Orion, MI., and Rosalinda Smith of White Lake, MI.

A memorial mass will be held Saturday 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 480 152nd Ave., Holland, Friends may greet the family 10:00 AM - 11:00AM prior to the service.

Memorial gifts may be given to: Hospice of Holland, American Cancer Society or Ottawa County Children Advocacy.
