Robert Cole Simonds, age 91 of Fennville, died October 16, 2021.
Bob was born in Boston Mass March 3, 1930, to Robert and Gladys Simonds of York Harbor, Maine and Effingham, IL. He was the grandson of O.C. Simonds, famed landscape designer. Bob graduated from Effingham H.S. 1948 and graduated University of Illinois in 1957 with degree in Urban Planning. Bob was a veteran serving in the Army during the Korean War from 1953-55.
Wife of Joan Huene Simonds (1963). Adopted father of William Simonds. Grandfather to his children, Meredith Simonds and Cole Simonds. Father of Eve Simonds McKeown (married to Timothy McKeown). Grandfather to their children, Grace McKeown and Anne McKeown.
Longtime resident of Jefferson City MO where he worked for the state in planning and economic development. Supporter for the Humane Society. Retired to Pier Cove, MI in 1997. Volunteered at the Saugatuck Historical Society and presented history of Pier Cove and O.C. Simonds.
Was a private pilot and loved foreign automobiles. Tireless steward of the Pier Cove Ravine Trust and it's 75acre landscape sanctuary.
No services or visitations are scheduled at this time.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Pier Cove Ravine Trust is requested.
Arrangements are by the Dykstra Funeral Home-Saugatuck Chapel.
