Rev. Paul Colenbrander, 93, of Holland, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017. He is survived by his children, Dan and Mary Colenbrander of Holland, Paula and Hugh Wassink of Holland and Jeane and Steve Holmes of Northville, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, and his sister Frances Vermeer of Sioux Center, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera, his brother, Harold Colenbrander and sister, Elizabeth Paekel.

Paul served in the US Navy during WWII. When he returned from duty he completed his college degree and became a teacher and coach at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. He later continued as the athletic director. In 1963, he moved his family to Holland to attend Western Seminary. During this time he officiated many games in local high schools. After his graduation he served as pastor of Maplewood Reformed Church for 12 years. Following his retirement from the ministry he continued until the age of 88 to preach and lead church services in many area churches. During this time he also built 36 houses in the Holland area.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Thursday (December 28) at Maplewood Reformed Church, 133 East 34th St. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Wednesday (December 27) at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd St. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Rev. Paul Colenbrander Scholarship Fund C/O Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa 51041.
