Life Story / Obituary

Randy A. Ramsey, 71, of Saugatuck, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 17, 2025, shortly after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.

Randy was born July 20, 1953, in Kansas City, Missouri, and was raised in Morrilton, Arkansas, where he graduated from high school. He began his career with The Dow Chemical Company in Russellville, Arkansas, and later transferred to Freeport, Texas, and then Midland, Michigan. Randy proudly spent 36 years with Dow, mostly in Research & Development, before retiring.

He was loved over the years by the youth he coached in soccer, from “littles” through high school, which he continued after he moved to the west side of Michigan. He was also deeply loved in their chosen community of Saugatuck. Randy always had a warm smile and kind words. He basically never met a stranger. Many friends have reached out to say what they’ll miss most about Randy is how he gave the biggest and best hugs.

Randy loved being outdoors and was always working on something—organizing the garage, fixing things around the house, or perfecting his yard. He took great pride in the details, especially straight mowing lines, with neighbors joking they wouldn’t be surprised to see him cutting each blade of grass by hand. Randy loved music—R&B, jazz, and classic rock—which often served as the background for his time outdoors. He also enjoyed relaxing by their firepit with an occasional cigar.

Randy dearly loved his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Patsy Robertson Ramsey; his daughter, Anna Ramsey Feeney (Ryan); his stepson, Bryan Gotcher (Kristi); and his six cherished grandchildren, who lovingly called him Papa: Sydney, Carson, Caroline, and Henry (Bryan and Kristi); and Sloane and Baby Feeney (Anna and Ryan). He is also survived by three sisters, Diane Novak, Jeannie Ball, and Tina Yarbrough, all of Morrilton, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Randy’s honor to the Saugatuck Center for the Arts, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or a charity of the donor’s choosing.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
