Patrick Whalen, 54, of Zeeland, formerly of Jackson, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006. Born in Jackson, the son of Joseph and Dorothy Whalen, he graduated from East Jackson High School. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Vietnam. He was employed as an engineer for General Motors until retiring for health reasons. He was a member of American Legion Post 6 and the VFW. He was a member of the Proud Veterans Motorcycle Club in Jackson. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Whalen, in 1998, and by a sister, Nancy, in 2002. He is survived by his wife, Debra; children, Tonya and Matt Slager of Zeeland, Bobbi Jo and Matt French of Muskegon, Patrick Whalen of Richland, Crissey Whalen of Seattle; mother, Dorothy Crabtree of Jackson; sisters, Linda and Bill Sisco of Battle Creek, and Joette and John Balfe of Jackson; and 10 grandchildren. A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Sunday at the VFW Hall, 165 S. Getty St., Muskegon. Arrangements are by the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St.
