Life Story / Obituary

Print

Norman F. Lunderberg, 88, left this world on September 29, 2018. As a loving and lovable husband, a nurturing parent, a supportive grandfather, an adorable great grandfather, and a vital community member and friend to many, he will be missed.

Norm was born at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Growing up, he was deeply involved in student leadership, the Boy Scouts of America, the YMCA, basketball, and track & field (he was a Minnesota state champion in high jump). At the University of Minnesota, he lettered in track & field. After graduating with a Bachelors in Business Administration with a major in Accounting, Norm served in the Navy as an officer during the Korean War. He worked at General Electric for 29 years in finance & accounting in Milwaukee, WI, Schenectady, NY, and since 1964, in Holland, MI.

Norm loved to learn. He was the first in his family to graduate from college. At 55, Norm retired from General Electric and attended Notre Dame University for his MBA. Always blending learning into his life, Norm was well-versed in current affairs and delighted with world travel. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Hope Academy of Senior Professionals (HASP) and a former HASP President. To share his passion for learning, Norm was a business/accounting instructor at Grand Valley State University, Davenport University, Baker College, and at the local prison.

Norm was predeceased by Mary Ellen, his wife of 60 years. He is survived by his three children: Pat (Dave) Van Wylen, Jon (Marla) Lunderberg, Carol (Bill) Stauffer; sister: Dee Ginthner; brothers-in-law: Roger (Kitty) Johnson and David (Carol) Johnson; grandchildren: Nathan (Hannah), Thomas (Jenn), Madison (Sean), Mark (Val), Eric (Elisira), David, Anna, Jacob, and Max; great grandson: Hugo.

The Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, 57 W. 10th St, Holland, MI 49423. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be designated for the Norm and Mary Ellen Lunderberg Off-Campus Study Scholarship at Hope College (hope.edu/give/lunderberg).
