Life Story / Obituary

Nelson J. Sneller, age 95 of Holland, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday July 20, 2023.

Born to Albert & Nellie (Zylstra) Sneller, Nelson grew up in Zeeland and was one of 9 children. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and upon his return, married Joyce Gunneman in 1955. Nelson was a very hard worker, and began his career in plumbing in 1947. He went on to start his own business “Sneller Plumbing” and worked for over 60 years. He loved camping, traveling, snowmobiling, hunting trips, and really anything that involved being outdoors. His greatest love however was his family. He and Joyce went to every family sporting event and always wanted to help with family house projects. He was a long-time member of Overisel Reformed Church where he served on the building committee and was an elder and deacon. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce in 2018; infant son Brian in 1960; and his siblings.

Nelson is survived by his children, Reed (Cindy) Sneller, Vicki (Eddy) Swamy, Kim (Phil) Nykamp, Todd (Gina) Sneller; grandchildren, Troy Sneller, Jon Nykamp, Jared Nykamp, along with several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.

A visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 25 from 6-8pm at Overisel Reformed Church. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, July 26 at 11:00am also at Overisel Reformed Church. For those who are unable to attend the service in person, a livestream will be available HERE

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Resthaven Maplewood Cottages or Overisel Reformed Church – Building Fund.
