Nell Kiel, age 86, of Holland died Friday, November 30, 2018.

Nell was born to Meindert and Jacoba Klein on May, 15, 1932 in Armour, SD. Her family moved to Lynden, WA when she was a child and she graduated from Lynden Christian High School. She completed the nurses training program at Pine Rest Psychiatric Hospital in 1953. On August 21, 1954 she married Wesley Kiel as he was entering Western Theological Seminary. They served churches in Cleveland, OH, Edmonds, WA, Sioux Center, Iowa and Christ Memorial Church where she continued to be a member until her death. Nell enjoyed gardening and was very creative in needle work. She was a wonderful wife and mother and delighted in her children and grandchildren. People would say Nell had a sense of honesty, humor and had a caring demeanor.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Sheryl Mallehan in 2016 and grandson Staff Sgt. Matthew Weikert in 2010.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Rev. Dr. Wes Kiel and children: Susan and Richard Weikert of Jacksonville, IL, Dr. Steve and Sheryl Kiel of Colorado Springs, CO and Scott and Cathy Kiel of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren: Meghan and Darron Collings, Melissa and Christopher Werries, Leah and Nate Makepeace, Laura Mallehan and fiancé Kyle Bruursema, Ryan and Stephanie Mallehan, Steven Kiel and fiancée Danielle Richie and Hannah Kiel; 6 great grandchildren; brothers and sister: Tillie Bajema of Lynden, WA, Merlin and Kathy Klein of Sioux Falls, SD and Albert Klein of Maple Falls, WA; son-in-law: David Mallehan of Holland; sister-in-law: Lois and Ray Zylstra of Oak Harbor, WA; nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be 11:00 am, Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Christ Memorial Church Chapel, 595 Graafschap Road in Holland. Reverend Bill Boersma will be officiating.

Visitation will be from 10-11 am prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to Lynden Christian High School, 515 Drayton Street, Lynden, WA 98264.
