Mildred Jean Maatman

“Millie” was a person who tried every day to be a good and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and Christian to all. Mildred Jean Maatman passed away peacefully in Florida and is finally reunited with her “Sonny “on May 6, 2017. Born October 12, 1925 in Holland, the daughter of Vernon and Evelyn Cook. Millie spent most of her childhood in Holland where she graduated from Holland High School.

After her first date with Clarence “Sonny” Maatman enjoying a coke after roller skating at the Virginia Park Roller rink, there was no one else for Millie. “Sonny” became the love of her life! Sonny and Millie were married when Sonny returned from the Navy after World War II. After running the Windmill Service Station in Virginia Park together for a few years, they adopted and raised four children, Sherry, Christine, Dennis and Joe.

Millie loved to sing, performing in choirs, trios and solo. Traveling, bike riding with friends, quilting and playing cards were some of her favorite past times. Millie loved life, her family and friends especially Barb and Ken Strengholt. Later in life, Millie loved spending time with her grandchildren, taking them to movies, playing Rummikub, cards, and taking them on trips.
