Life Story / Obituary

Michele Marie Barz, born in 1966 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by love. She was the daughter of Sandra Marie Cochran and Michael Leo Barz. Michele came into the world with a gift for making others feel seen, valued, and beautiful, a gift she carried throughout her life.

Michele was a dedicated hair school teacher at Tulip City for many years. She loved helping others feel confident and beautiful, and that passion carried through not only her career but also her personality and the way she loved her family. Her warmth, compassion, and generous heart defined who she was.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Michele was preceded in death by her beloved son, Dale Williams, who passed away on December 29, 2015.

Michele is survived by her children, Alyssa Sheldon and her husband Zak, and John MacDonald and his wife Emily; her cherished grandchildren, Scarlette Sheldon, Vivienne Sheldon, and Hank MacDonald; her parents, Sandra Marie Knapp and stepdad Leo Knapp, and Michael Leo Barz and stepmom Linda Barz; and her siblings, Michael Barz, Tom Barz and his wife Kerri, David Barz, Diana Terpstra and her husband Rob, and Sara Barz. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly.

Michele treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren. She also shared companionship and special memories with Michael Hayes.

Michele will be remembered for her kindness, her warmth, and her ability to make others feel valued and loved. Her compassionate spirit and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

A celebration of Michele’s life will be held on Sunday, January 4, with visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., followed by a service at 5:00 p.m., both taking place at Dykstra Funeral Homes, Mulder Chapel, located at 188 West 32nd Street, Holland, Michigan 49423.
