Life Story / Obituary
Maxine Sneider age 86, of Saugatuck passed away at Holland Hospital July 10, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Sneider; and parents Hubert and Florence Newhouse. Surviving family includes sister Jane (Selma) Leisure and husband Tony of California, daughter Susan of Indiana and partner Geoff Newman, daughter Sarah Coffman and husband Norm of Saugatuck and grandson Matt DeWitt of Holland.
Maxine met Eugene while roller skating at the Pavilion in Saugatuck. During their marriage, they enjoyed raising a family on the shore of Kalamazoo Lake. While growing up, our family enjoyed many camping trips in Western Michigan. Our favorites were Ludington, MI and walking the “Big Mac” on Labor Day. Maxine worked for a short time at the Redwood Drive Inn, volunteered as a secretary for the High School Band, and became a Campfire Girls leader. Mostly, she focused on family and her hobbies of knitting and counted cross stich projects. Focusing on family, her joy was her grandson Matt and they have spent a lot of time together.
Gene and Maxine moved from Saugatuck to Campbell Road in Douglas in 1974, and after Gene retired they both enjoyed winters in Florida and traveling.
Funeral services will be 10 am Friday (July 14) at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Saugatuck Chapel, 520 Lake Street. Burial will be in Graafschap Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 pm, Thursday (July 13), at the Saugatuck Chapel.
