Mary Rae Schuitema

Mary Rae (Newton) Schuitema, age 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 8, 2021. She was born in Kent City and raised in Grant, but spent most of her life in Jenison and Holland, near her children, Lake Michigan, Big Red, and Tulip Time. Rae is preceded in death by her parents, twin sister Lilly Mae, and six siblings. Rae was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who dearly loved her family. She drove bus for Jenison Public Schools for 29 years and upon “retirement” managed Lake Ranch Resort in Holland for 15 years. Rae is remembered and cherished by her husband of 66 years, Bob; children Robert Jr., Debbi (Eric) Toth, Nan (Kevin) Keech, Julie (John) Hamaty; grandchildren Paige (Cam) Holding, Courtney (Jake) Bagley, Jack, George, and Tatum Hamaty, Kayley and Brett Schuitema, and Alex, Christian, Emerson, and Max Toth; many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 17, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Rd., Holland, with Reverend Bill Boersma officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Private interment. Thank for the love and support we received from the staff at Resthaven Care Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Resthaven or Hospice of Holland. Arrangements are by the Dykstra Funeral Home-Northwood Chapel.
