Mary Jane Tanis, 84, of Hamilton, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on June 27th, 2025 in her home and among family.

Mary Jane was born in Marion, Indiana to Robert and Peggy Nelson on January 5, 1941. She grew up with her two sisters, Diana and Carol Sue, who she enjoyed visiting every week for many years.

Mary Jane married the love of her life, Wayne, in 1963. They shared a loving and joyful relationship of 61 years. They enjoyed traveling together, camping, playing card games, solving puzzles, and spending time with their grandchildren. She was an avid crafter and sewer who loved getting creative with her grandkids, and made each of her grandchildren their own unique quilt. She also enjoyed crocheting baby blankets and afghans, and spent some of her final weeks preparing blankets for her future great-grandchildren.

Mary Jane was a woman of strong faith who actively participated in Bible study and was a lifelong member of Haven Church. She loved spending time in prayer with the Lord and had a deep appreciation for His creation. She was a tender and kindhearted soul with an infectious personality who will be dearly missed and forever loved.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 61 years, Wayne Tanis; sisters, Diana Ysseldyke and Carol Sue (Michael) Wood; sons, Wade (Gina) Tanis, Mark Tanis, and Matt (Amy) Tanis; six grandchildren, Zane Tanis, Katlyn (Eric) Burt, Haley Tanis, Madison Tanis, Zoe Tanis, and Jason Tanis; and first great-grandson, Luke Burt.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30th from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Haven Church, 4691 Oak St, Hamilton, MI. Funeral service will be held at Haven Church on Tuesday, July 1st at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mike Drew officiating. A private graveside service will take place at Hamilton Riverside Cemetery. Our family would like to extend our profound gratitude to Hospice of Holland for their loving and compassionate care and support.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Haven Church or Hospice of Holland.
