Marvin R. Younger, age 74, of Holland, Michigan, died on Monday, June 9, 2025 after a sudden illness.

Marvin was born on November 11, 1950 to Robert W. Younger and Anna Mae Younger from Philadelphia, PA. After graduating from Simon Gratz High School in 1968, he moved to Michigan to attend Hope College where he received a Bachelor's of Art in 1972. He later received his Master's in Education in 1977 from the Western Michigan State University. Marvin worked as a educator for over 30 years in Holland, MI, South East Asia, and Micronesia.

Over the past 50 years, Marvin achieved the following accolades:

1975 - Presidential Award for Outstanding Young Men of America

1982 to 1985 - Appointed Member of Human Relations Commission for the City of Holland, MI

1982 to 1988 - Awarded for Dedication to Equality, Justice & Human Dignity for all citizens of the City of Holland

1986 - Awarded Excellence in Education by the State of Michigan

1988 - Presented with the Elizabeth Siddall International Understanding Award from the Michigan Education Association

1988 - Awarded Non-Hispanic Educator of the Year from the State Board of Education

1991 - Awarded Certificate of Appreciation for 23 years of dedicated service & commitment to the Hope College Upward Bound Program

2007 - Community Service Award from Core City/Juneteeth

2022 - Awarded the MLK Service Award from the Rotary Club of Holland

Marvin was also an active member of Hollands Rotary Club, Charter Member of the Michigan Education Association, and countless other organizations.

His greatest love was traveling and the time he spent with his friends and Holland family.

Marvin leaves behind sisters; Gloria, Sheila, Vanessa, Yvonne and brothers, Gary and Roger. As well as, a host of nieces and nephews. Marvin's spirit of bringing joy and connection to countless lives will continue to ripple through the world. The Younger Family
