Martha J. Myers

Martha Jane Myers, aged 98, passed away on Wednesday, October 8th, peacefully in her apartment at Douglas Cove. She lived most of her life in Saugatuck but moved to Holland in her later years. 'Marty' was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 21, 1927 to Curtis and Frieda Massoll. Martha graduated from Michigan State University in 1948 and married LeRoy Wright, an enlisted Navy man, in 1949. Her marriage brought 3 children, Susan Wright (Hansford), Terrance Wright, and Jane Wright-Zigterman. After divorcing in 1970, Martha married William Myers in 1972 at a ceremony in the Community Church of Douglas. She and 'Bill' spent the remainder of their lives together with Bill preceding her in death by almost 30 years. She worked as a bookkeeper for Harris Pie, Taft’s super market, and Seffelaar & Looyen until her retirement in 1980. She then was elected Township Treasurer and served for 4 years. She also did the book work for Vermuelen Nursery, Wavecrest Nursery, The Casual Man, and several local art galleries. Martha is survived by her 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She will be missed by many.
