Life Story / Obituary
Elder Marshall Collom Sr., passed away at home on Saturday, February 14th, 2026.
Marshall was born on September 6th, 1954, & raised by his parents in Gadsden, Alabama, being the 4th child of 8 siblings. As an adult he came to know the Lord while under the leadership of Pastor Arizona Jenkins. It was at their church where he met and began courting his then future wife of whom was visiting Alabama from Michigan with her family during a church revival at their facility. Marshall eventually moved to Michigan in 1983 after getting married to the love of his life. Once in Michigan, he became employed by Heinz Company after-which he transferred to Bil-Mar Foods, where he established himself, & maintained a good rapport with other employees & his employer, to include employee perfect attendance honors. He retired from there after 30 plus years of service, under its then ownership, Hillshire Brand Foods.
He continuously grew by the grace of God later becoming ordained as an elder in the ministry under of the leadership of the late Bishop Johnnie Lee Henderson. He became a man on a mission, one that wanted to make a positive impact in the lives of the people he met, both naturally, & spiritually. He was one that loved his family & reverenced God. Marshall enjoyed reading, talking, & sharing the Word of God with others. Some people might place him in the category of being one that would give you the shirt off his back. However, truth be told, he would not stop there but would take you to the store, and purchase you a new shirt off the rack, making sure that he had done right by you.
Marshall had numerous hobbies… He was an avid hunter to the core, loving both bow & firearms hunting seasons. Just the thought of searching & patiently waiting for deer, pheasants, squirrels, rabbits, etc., brought a smile to his face. He also loved fishing, & family reunions… Additionally, he was a happy man in the abilities that God had gifted him with to repair, build, and rebuild automotives! After his retirement from Hillshire, he flourished in that arena, sometimes taking it to the racetrack in competitions with some of his builds, and rebuilds. He was awarded trophies over the years in various categories. He loved exploration; he & his wife also instilled it in their children early in life.
Marshall leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 42½ years, Evangelist Althea Collom; Daughter: Jacqueline Walker; Sons: Marshall Collom Jr., Michael (Covey) Collom, Tony (Debbie) Collom, LaMarkus Collom, & Son-in-Law: Kevin Cobb. 2 Granddaughters, 5 Grandson, along with his 4 living Siblings, His Sister-in-Laws, Brother-in-Laws, & a host of nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, cousins, & friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter: LaTonya Cobb, his parents, 3 brothers, & 1 sister. Visitation: Thursday, February 19th, 6-8p Funeral: Friday, February 20th, 11a Cornerstone Tabernacle 781 Lincoln Ave. Visitation 10a-11a. Officiating, Bishop James Rogers.
