Marilyn Jane Snedden Nagy, 90, of Elk Rapids, Michigan, passed away July 17, 2023, from complications due to an illness. Marilyn was the loving wife of former executive publisher of the Heritage Newspaper chain, the late Ernest L. Nagy. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, March 2, 1933, to Marcella (Mellus) and Thomas Snedden. She married Ernie on January 24, 1953, and they celebrated 62 years of marriage in 2015.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

She is survived by her sister, Lois (Snedden) Nestor, three children, Ernie (Mary Lou) Nagy of East Lansing, MI; Greg (Pat) Nagy of Ft. Atkinson, WI; and Linda (Tom) Ralston of Breckenridge, CO. She will be greatly missed by her seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

As a young girl, Marilyn delivered newspapers for Mellus Newspapers, where she met her future husband. Marilyn enjoyed making ceramics, many of which she gave to family and friends. Her fondness for cats and ice cream was legendary.

She and Ernie and their family began vacationing in Elk Rapids in the mid 60’s when they stayed at the Sunnyside Cabins on Ames Street, and later the Pine Hollow Resort on South Bayshore. In 1977 Marilyn convinced Ernie to purchase their own cottage on North Bayshore Drive and in 1992, built a home where they lived during their retirement. They spent winters at the Surfside Club on Marco Island, Florida and always looked forward to returning home, first to Trenton, MI and then in 1992, to Elk Rapids.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and memorial contributions may be sent to the Elk Rapids Public Library.

Arrangements are by Dykstra Funeral Homes-Northwood Chapel.
