Margaret Murphy

Margaret Mary Murphy, age 96, of Holland, MI. died Friday September 12, 2008 at Oak Crest Manor of Holland.

She was born and raised in Ottawa Beach to the late William James and Mable Murphy. Margaret and her family where involved with The Ottawa Beach Hotel, and also owned & operated Murphy’s House Boat and day fishing shuttles. She was a graduate of Holland High School, and retired from Hart & Cooley where she worked for 31 years in the payroll office. She was a long time resident of Royal Park Place in Zeeland, MI. She was Life member of the Order of The Eastern Star, former member of First United Methodist Church of Holland, and charter member of the Holland Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association.

She was preceded in death by her brother Archie Murphy.

Her family includes niece Patty and Greg Dalman of Macatawa, nephew Robert Murphy of Holland; sister-in-law Lois Murphy of Holland; cousins Rev. Harold Legant of Middleville, MI., Dorothy and Gerry Smith of Cowley, Alberta, Canada, Arlene and Les VanHekken of Holland, and Barbara Bolks of Holland.

Services will be 2:00 pm Monday, September 15, 2008 at The Mulder Chapel Dykstra Life Story Funeral Home 188 West 32nd Street Holland, MI. The Rev. Harold Legant will officiate services and burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

Visiting will be the hour before the service from 1pm to 2pm at The Mulder Chapel Dykstra Funeral Home.

Because of Margaret’s love of cats and dogs, she has asked that memorials be made to Harbor Humane Society.
