Life Story / Obituary

Marcia Lou Slotman, age 75, of Overisel, MI, was called into Glory by her Lord and Savior on December 11, 2025. Born on June 10, 1950, in Jamestown, MI, to Harvey and Hermina VanRhee, Marcia lived her life anchored in the hope and promises of Christ.

Marcia faithfully walked beside her husband of 47 years, Roger Slotman, building a home grounded in love, grace, and steadfast trust in the Lord. She devoted her career to caring for others as a pediatric nurse at Holland Hospital, where her gentle spirit and compassionate touch reflected the heart of Jesus to every child and family she served.

A longtime member of Overisel Reformed Church, Marcia poured herself into the life of the church she loved. She sang joyfully in the choir, served diligently in the church library, and supported countless ministries with humility and devotion. Beyond the church walls, she spent 25 years volunteering with Love INC, faithfully living out the command to love her neighbors.

Marcia’s greatest earthly joy was her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who delighted in creating memories—especially during baking days with her grandkids. Her creative gifts shone through in scrapbooking and card making, and she was known for crafting a heartfelt, homemade card for every occasion.

Those who knew Marcia will remember her Christlike kindness, her warm and welcoming spirit, and her gift for making others feel seen and valued. She listened with patience, encouraged with gentleness, and modeled a quiet, unwavering faith throughout her life.

Marcia is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Hermina VanRhee; sisters Marilyn VanRhee and Thelma Timmer; and brother Melvin VanRhee.

She is survived by her husband, Roger Slotman; children, Sara and Josh Van Lente and Dale and Ruthanne Slotman; and her grandchildren, Benjamin, Eleanor, Lydia, Penelope, Margaret, and Hazel, who rejoice in the assurance that she is now in the presence of her Savior, fully healed and forever home.

Visitation with the family will be on Monday, December 15, at Overisel Reformed Church, 4706 142nd Ave, Holland, MI 49423, from 4-7pm, and on Tuesday, December 16, from 10-11am.

A celebration of Marcia’s life and faith will be held on Tuesday, December 16, at 11am, at Overisel Reformed Church, 4706 142nd Ave, Holland, MI 49423, with Rev. Earl Slotman presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Love INC of Allegan County, an organization close to Marcia’s heart.

“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:21–23 (ESV)
