It is with great sorrow we share that Lucille, better known as Lucy, age 80, of Holland passed away into the arms of her loving Savior on August 18, 2024.

She leaves behind a family who love and cherish her along with countless friends who will miss her dearly. She was the sunshine of the beach, and her beautiful spirit is sure to remain with us forever.

Lucy was the daughter of Helen & Herman Kiekintveld, growing up in the heart of Holland, graduating from Holland High. Holland was dear to Lucy’s heart, and she was proud to call it her Home for 80 years. Lucy worked for Hope College Food Service (Creative Dining), working selflessly countless hours to ensure Hope College students were fed. She enjoyed her work immensely, growing the department into catering events, business meetings, weddings, and several other events later at the Haworth Center as Manager. Often, she was requested by name given her reputation of service with the sunshine she carried with her.

Lucy was a life-long supporter & volunteer at Holland’s Tulip Time festival. She was an example of selfless deeds, volunteering to put smiles on faces whether you were a stranger or a familiar face. She truly enjoyed the locals and tourists and sharing with them in her Dutch heritage.

Arlon and Lucy enjoyed spending time at Big Star Lake over the years. She thoroughly enjoyed entertaining her family and friends at their cottage and the relaxation time with Arlon watching the lake and its activities.

Lucy and Arlon enjoyed several winters in Florida starting in Anna Maria Island and later in Panama City Beach. To no surprise Lucy has the best shell collection from her many beach walks. She yearned for the days her toes hit those sandy beaches after the season leaves our Michigan beaches with a chill.

Lucy and Arlon were fortunate to enjoy several trips together traveling to the states and Caribbean. Whether with family or friends she was delighted to experience someplace new. She was always up for a new adventure.

Lucy loved and cherished her family. She was the best of friends with her sisters Beverly, Jan and brother Dave. She loved watching the family grow with marriages and babies. Her loved ones will miss her support, advice, genuine compliments, listening ear and most of all her unconditional love. Her dear girlfriends were an instrumental part of her life, from girl trips to Big Star, day trips to a beach, or just hanging at a house to socialize. She was a generous, compassionate, giving ray of sunshine and was adored by everyone that knew her special soul.

Lucy is survived by her husband of nearly 61 years Arlon; Sons, Mark Jongekrijg, and Jonathan (Melissa) Jongekrijg; sisters Jan (Harv) Brower, Beverly DeKorte, brother Dave (Barb) Kiekintveld; a special niece Becky DeKorte, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Helen and Herman Kiekintveld, sister Donna Weerstra and infant daughter Christie, sister and brother-in-law Ron & Arlene Dozeman; father and mother-in-law Jacob (Jack) and Mable Jongekrijg; and a brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Judy Everts.

The family would like to thank the Advanced Radiology team of Dr Knox MD office, Corewell Health GI team of Dr Price DO, Holland Hospital Dr Eklov MD and the ICU staff at Butterworth. Their gracious and compassionate care has been abundantly appreciated. Also, a special thank you to Fair Haven Church, Hudsonville MI, for the lovely prayer quilt for our Spiritual Lucy.

A visitation with family and friends will be from 5-7pm, Friday, August 23, 2024, at Dykstra Funeral Homes – Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Ave in Holland.

A private funeral service is scheduled and a graveside service at North Holland Cemetery will be planned for a later date. Pastor Deb Yurk will be officiating both.

Memorial contributions may be made to Harbor Humane Society, West Olive MI or Boys and Girls Club of Greater Holland.
