Louis Wayne Schaap, aged 94 of Holland, MI, was called home to his Lord and Savior on December 31, 2025.

Born on the family farm on December 18, 1931, to William and Susan Schaap, Louis was the last of 11 siblings to pass, marking the end of an era for a family that embodied the grit and faith of early 20th-century Michigan.A man of deep conviction and quiet strength, Louis’s life was anchored in three loves: God, family, and country. He proudly served in the Army during the Korean War and remained a lifelong prayer warrior for his nation, firmly believing in its biblical foundations. After 25 years of dedicated service in the maintenance department of Holland Hospital, he retired to focus on his true passion—his family and his church. For over 80 years, he was a pillar of faith at Rose Park and Calvary Baptist Churches, living out the values of hard work and discipleship.Louis is survived by his faithful wife, Yvonne (Pas) Schaap, Holland, MI. They were married for 69 years. In addition, Louis is survived by three children and their spouses; 8 grandchildren/spouses; 16 great-grandchildren and too many nieces and nephews to count. He is preceded in death by his 11 brothers/sisters and their spouses.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Dykstra Funeral Home/Mulder Chapel, 188 W. 32nd St., Holland, MI. The visitation with family begins at 10am followed by a Memorial Service at 11am. Louis’ grandsons, pastors Derek Laird (Ridgepoint Community Church) and Justin Schaap (Engedi Church) will be officiating the Memorial service. Dykstra funeral home will be handling the funeral home arrangements. There will be no burial service following the Memorial Service. Louis' remains will be laid to rest at East Holland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Corewell where Louis and his family received excellent care and support throughout the time of his illness. The family would also like to thank Dykstra Funeral Home for their support and taking care of all funeral arrangements. The family is deeply grateful for these organizations that serve families well within our community.
