Life Story / Obituary
Joyce Nienhuis, age 94 of Holland, peacefully passed away Sunday March 30 at Quincy Place in Holland.
Joyce was a proud graduate of the Holland High School Class of ‘49. She was employed by Hart and Cooley for 9 years. In 1955, Joyce married Vern Nienhuis of Holland. Joyce was baptized at First Reformed Church of Holland, became and member, and faithfully attended for over 94 years. She was involved in adult Sunday School, Women’s Guild, and many special events. The community of First Church was an integral part of their life. Joyce was recognized for 25 years of volunteer service by Holland Hospital in 2015. She enjoyed ballroom dancing with her husband, gardening, camping, shopping, and baking delectable desserts for all occasions. Joyce was well known for her ability to converse with strangers and loved being around people, especially her family. She will be missed.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Vern Nienhuis in 2013, and her daughter, Vicki Lynn Kline in 2013. She is survived by her children, Curtis Nienhuis of Holland, Diane and Scott Suits of Zeeland; son-in-law, Robert Kline of McKnightsville, SC; 16 grandchildren, Heidi and Kyle Miller of Holland, Holly Nienhuis of Holland, Michael and Jess Nienhuis of Howell, Tami and Jonathan Kates–Allen of Ladson, SC, Derek Kline of McKnightsville, SC, Jared and Courtney Suits of Ionia, MI, Eric and Alycia Suits of Dearborn, MI, Kyla and Thomas Ensley of Holland, MI, Shelby Suits and fiancé Julian Giakas of St. Louis, MO, and 8 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dale and Chris Nienhuis of Zeeland; sister-in-law, Norma Nienhuis of South Haven, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, April 2nd at 11:00am at First Reformed Church in Holland, with an hour of visitation prior at 10:00am. Burial will be at Pilgrim Home Cemetery. For those who are unable to attend the service in person, a live stream will be available HERE
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to Hospice of Holland or National Multiple Sclerosis Association of America.
