Kenneth D. DeWeerdt, age 77 of Holland, passed away May 29, 2024 at his home, surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer.

Ken was born in Zeeland, MI to Henry and Mary (Zeerip) DeWeerdt in 1946 and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1965. He furthered his education, graduating from Grand Valley, where he studied business. Ken met the love of his life, Nancy in Overisel and the two were married at Holland Heights CRC on December 17, 1969. Following their new marriage, Ken served in the United States Army, where he spent most of his service working at as a medical clerk at a hospital in Japan. When he returned home, Ken began his career with Windemuller Builders, where he worked for 42 years as a finish carpenter. He had a passion for serving, whether it was for his church as a Deacon, or for Fillmore Township, where he served in various roles for over 40 years, most recently the last 12 years as township supervisor. His hobbies included woodworking, watching baseball, and attending all his grandchildren’s sporting events. He also loved to travel the world with Nancy, however he always said his favorite mile was the last one coming home. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, along with his brother Don DeWeerdt.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Nancy (Arendsen); sons, Michael (Jennifer) DeWeerdt, Brent (Kerri) DeWeerdt; grandchildren, Ashleigh (Josh) Kooienga, Matthew (Olivia) DeWeerdt, Adam DeWeerdt, Elliott DeWeerdt, Clay DeWeerdt, Ahmed DeWeerdt; great-grandchildren, Braelynn Kooienga, Brooklynne Kooienga; brother, Vern (Verna) DeWeerdt; sister, Elaine (Dale) Flokstra; sister-in-law, Elaine Vanheuvelen; brother-in-law, Loren (Jan) Arendsen; sisters-in-law, Colleen (Darle) Wassink, Evon (Mark) Craymer, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Burial has taken place at East Holland Cemetery. A visitation will take place on Monday, June 3 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Holland Heights CRC (836 E 8th St., Holland). A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 4 at 6:30pm, also at Holland Heights CRC.
