June I. Spriggs, age 75, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2022, at Holland Hospital following a brief illness. Her loving husband David Langley was by her side.

She was born in Nankin Township, Michigan, on June 20, 1947. June graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education. She continued her education and graduated from EMU with a Master of Arts degree in Community Counseling. She also attended Oakland University and received a certificate in Couples and Family Counseling in 2001.

June met her lifelong partner, David on an Outward-Bound trip to the Cascade Mountains in Oregon in 1978. They followed each other back and forth from Michigan to Connecticut over the next few years until they settled down together in Ann Arbor.

She was a classroom teacher at Willow Run Early Childhood Development Center from 1983 to 1984. June also spent time working with high-risk children in their homes.

June also spent several years volunteering at the Women’s Center of America in Ann Arbor, facilitating support groups. She had a special place in her heart for that organization and was dedicated to serving women in need.

June and David began their first venture together with their toy store, The Toybox Unlocked, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Together they ran the business for six years. They worked together for 25 years running First Step Day Care, their highly successful home-based childcare program for children one to five years of age.

In 2008, June and David changed careers and moved to the beautiful lakeshore community of Saugatuck, Michigan to start Serendipity Bed and Breakfast. June and her daughter Kristen spent years trying and succeeding in making Serendipity as beautiful outdoors with the spectacular flower gardens as it is indoors with the Victorian style atmosphere.

June was preceded in death by her beautiful daughter, Kristen.

June is survived by her husband, David; brother, Dale (Shirley), sisters-in-law, Carolyn and Peggy; nephew, Dale Gerard; niece, Marie and their families.

A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, January 7, from 11:00am to 1:00pm, at the Dykstra Funeral Home - Saugatuck Chapel, 520 Lake Street, Saugatuck, Michigan, 49453. A time of refreshments and light snacks will follow visitation at Serendipity Bed and Breakfast, 203 Griffith Street, Saugatuck.

Donations may be made in her memory to one of her favorite charities, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
