Life Story / Obituary

Judith Anne (Judy) Filley, 80, of Holland passed away on January 8th, 2022 at her home. She was born in Chicago, IL, to Ralph and Mildred Filley on September 21, 1941.

Judy will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Her compassion for others and intellect led her to graduate from Illinois Wesleyan University and become an elementary school teacher in Chicago and New York City. After moving back to Holland, she worked as a computer programmer for 20 years at Gentex Corporation in Zeeland. Always having a curious mind, she was also a very talented photographer and gardener.

She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt and dear friend. It is hard to describe the loss that will be felt everyone who knew her. She gave endless love and wisdom to those around her. Her constant presence in the lives of her nieces and nephews growing up was a blessing beyond measure. Whether it was as simple as talking in times of need to teaching someone how to play the piano, time with her was always treasured. She was just as generous with the following generation and touched so many lives.

Judy is survived by her sister Lois (Fred) Bauer, brother Larry (Judy) Filley, nephew Lincoln Bauer and nieces Michelle Bauer, Sheila Bauer, Rachel (Francis) Cleary and Jessica Filley. As well as great nephews, Grey Bauer, Jett Bauer, Zach Patton, Caleb Cleary and great nieces Lauren Fogg, Camille Fogg and Anna Patton. She is also survived by her best friend Donna VanDine, who is more of a sister than simply a friend. She is preceded in death by her father, Ralph Filley, and mother, Mildred Filley.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Holland Salvation Army, 104 Clover Street, Holland, MI 49423.
