Life Story / Obituary
Joyce M. Scholten died on Friday May 30, 2014 at Heritage Nursing Facility in Zeeland where she has been a resident since 2002. She died of Alzheimer’s complications. Joyce is the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. John R. Mulder. She graduated from Holland High School and has an AB degree form Hope College where she was the first female athlete to receive the Jack Schouten All Sports Award. Joyce taught 2nd and 3rd grades at Washington and Longfellow Schools.
She is survived by her husband Eugene (Gene) Scholten of Holland; son, John R. Scholten of Lansing; son, David and wife Beth Scholten, Sam and Paige of East Lansing; daughter, Nancy and Todd Kamstra, Josh, Jake, and Sarah of Holland. Joyce is also survived by in-laws, Leon and Adrie Scholten, Justin and Joyce B. Scholten, Al and Carole Scholten all of Holland, and Bea Scholten of Plantation Key, FL.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary and Phillip Baron and a sister-in-law, Ruth and Jan Osterop all of Holland.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services are 10 am Saturday, June 7, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church, 659 State Street. A family visitation will take place at the church Friday, June 6, 2014, from 5:30 to 8 pm.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Saints Among Us: nurses, aides, and Julie at Heritage, as well as Dr. Derks.
Arrangements are by the Dykstra Funeral Home-Downtown Chapel.
