John W. (“Red”) Kolean, age 84 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. He was born in Holland, MI January 24, 1938 to the late Harry J. and Margie (Knoll) Kolean.

Red was an entrepreneur who relished acquiring stumbling businesses and building new life into them, including gas stations, junk yards, party stores, farms, a refuse business, a tavern and a motel. His passion surrounded cars, predominantly restoration. He worked crossword puzzles and insisted they be done in ink, particularly the New York Times version.

Red is survived by his son Dan and Sarah Kolean (Emily and Eric Matych and Charlie Kolean) and daughter Kathleen and Murray Leshner (Alena and Jake Collaer). He is also survived by his sister Michele (Shelly) Kolean and brother Jeffrey Kolean, as well as his former wife Darlene Kolean. Other survivors include niece Jennica and Eric McCoy (Elizabeth, Emma, William and Peter) and nephew Gregory Kolean.

Family and friends are invited to “Red’s Remembrance”, a celebration of life open house on Friday, July 29, 5-8pm at 113 – 152nd Ave in Holland (his house).
