Life Story / Obituary

It is with overwhelming grief and sorrow that Frank and Jane Mauro announce the passing of their son, John Thomas Mauro on Monday, December 9, 2024.

He was born on February 28, 1974, in Holland, MI. His love of music became apparent at an early age. He studied piano but really enjoyed playing his trumpet. He attended West Ottawa schools and was active in the marching band, jazz band, pep band and orchestra. He was also a member of the Holland Area Youth Orchestra. He went on to attend the University of Michigan and received his degree in political science. He was an avid fan of U of M sports, following the football and basketball teams even in Colorado. Upon his graduation he went to Chengdu China teaching English at the Chengdu Institute of Technology. After returning home from China, he entered Hastings College of the law to obtain his JD degree. He decided to move to Denver and practiced law there.

John was a brilliant, witty and loving person who always looked after the less fortunate.

He is also survived by his brother Andrew (Tara) and nephew Pierson, his aunts Linda Veltri, Joy (Robin} Janiszewski, Cyndi Mauro and Uncle John (Jenny) Mauro.

John’s life was a testament to living with passion and freedom. As we bid him farewell, we celebrate a life that danced to his own rhythm, a spirit that will forever echo in our hearts.

A memorial of John’s life will be celebrated on Monday, June 16, 2025, please come and greet the family from 6-8 pm (with Wake Prayers beginning at 7:30 pm) at Dykstra Funeral Homes – Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue in Holland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's name to Save the Music Foundation, Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity or charity of your choice.
