John Rietveld age 94 of Holland died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Hospice House of Holland.

John was born in the Netherlands during WW1 in 1916. He considered himself a freedom fighter during WW11 and moved his family to Canada in 1949. In the early 1950’s John moved his family again, this time to the Holland area where he was sponsored by the John Heidema Family.

He was first employed by the Roamer Yachts Company but later got involved in the nursery business owning his own business, Beeline Greenhouse. John retired in 1965.

John was a longtime member of New Apostolic Church . His wife Catharina Bennemeer Rietveld preceded him in death in 1992.

John is survived by his children; Jane (Louis) Fisher of Amsterdam, Montana, Angie (Thomas) Duncan of Hamilton and Meta (Lex) Tirone of Holland, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren as well as sisters, Marie (Arthur) Stewart of Holland, Hilda (Harold) Dreuth of Colorado, Springs, sister –in-law, Myra Rietveld of Holland and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday 3:00PM at New Apostolic Church, 117 West 14th St. with Rev. Ardee Rocha officiating. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may greet the family Saturday 4 pm to 7pm at the Northwood Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Homes, 295 Douglas Ave. Holland.
