John was born in Cassandra, PA in 1953., and later moved to Holland with his parents in the late 1950’s.

John graduated from West Ottawa High School and later worked for several years with Fuel Systems Textron in Zeeland. John was active with the local rod and gun clubs in the area. One of John’s favorite hobbies was being a Ham Radio operator, and being able to communicate with many different people. He attended Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.

John was a devoted son, father, and grandfather. John will be missed by his close circle of friends who knew him best.

Surviving are son Stephen and Jessica Mattias of Florida, granddaughters Kaytlin and Steffie Mattias; brother, Paul (Sonny) Brutvan of PA; several cousins and close friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Fred Hoesli.

Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm with wake prays at 8:00 pm at the Northwood Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Homes, 295 Douglas Ave.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church or Holland Rescue Mission.
