Life Story / Obituary
Jessie Vanderkamp, age 102, died Thursday August 24, 2017 at Appledorn Living Center in Holland.
Jessie was well known for her musical talents. She played the big organs and the piano for church services, weddings, Sunday school, and even for the radio. Even at 102 she could still play the piano.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband Peter who was for many years a home missionary for the Christian Reformed Church. They worked as a team with Peter doing the preaching, and with Jessie providing the music. Together they established two new churches that still exist today.
Jessie was the mother of five children, Janet Tymes, Kenneth Vanderkamp, Robert Vanderkamp, Judy Schweitzer, and William Vanderkamp, who passed away many years ago. Jessie has seven grand children and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to helping her husband with church work and raising five kids, Jessie also worked as a secretary in the christian school. a clerk in a bakery, and a bank teller for 6 years in a local bank.
Jessie enjoyed travel and managed to visit most of our iconic national parks from Yosemite in the west to Arcadia in the east. She and Peter also did a lot of camping in Michigan in their simple trailer. Socializing with friends and family was perhaps her favorite activity.
Funeral service for Jessie will be Wednesday, August 30th at 1:00pm at Central Avenue Christian Reformed Church, with an hour of visitation prior starting at 12:00pm.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland, 270 Hoover Blvd., Holland, MI 49423.
