Jeffrey Paul Sale, age 62, passed away at his home in Grand Haven on Monday, June 6, 2022. He was one of the kindest human beings to walk this planet. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was compassionate, adventurous, open-hearted, intelligent, and loved animals.

Jeff was often called by his nickname, “Sailboat” or those closest to him, “Boat.” Sailing was the place of deep joy in his life. In his sailing career, he achieved numerous trophies and awards. He sailed on the boat Pronto out of the Macatawa Bay Yacht Club for twenty years. Most notably, he sailed in 36 Chicago Yacht Club to Mackinac races, came in 1st place on his boat Karma in the PHRF non-Spinnaker division in the 2019 Leukemia Cup Regatta (also receiving the Commodore’s Cup). Jeff was also certified as a Club Race Officer by the United States Sailing Association.

Born in Holland, he spent all of his life living near his beloved Lake Michigan. When not on the water, he was employed in the I.T. field in his early working days. Along with sailing, Jeff loved F1 racing, so it was only fitting that he started a car dealership in his later years. He is a graduate of Holland High School and attended Central Michigan University.

Jeff was preceded in death by his stepfather, Ted Nugent. He is survived by his mother, Donna Nugent; father and stepmother, Paul and Bozena Sale; brother and sister-in-law, Kurt and Amy Sale; half-sister and her husband, Tania and Ted Dozeman; nephews, Tyler Sale, Travis Sale, Elliot Dozeman, and Sebastian Dozeman; step-siblings, Maggie and Brock Ellwood, Tom Nugent, and Susie and Chuck Duquet.

Jeff is also survived by his soulmate, Cindy Sale; three stepchildren, Jeffrey and Sonia Howard, Laura Martinez, Ben Battaglia and ten grandchildren. Jeff is also mourned by his best buddy “Stork.”

A Celebration of Life gathering for friends and family will take place on the evening of Thursday, August 25, at Macatawa Bay Yacht Club.

If you would like to honor Jeff’s memory, we ask that donations are made to Reach for Recovery or Renew Therapeutic Riding Center.
