Jean E. Overkamp

Jean Elaine Overkamp, on her birthday, peacefully passed away and joined her savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at the age of 98.

She was born to John and Sena Bakker in 1925 and will be most remembered for a fierce loyalty to her family, her soft compassion toward others, a hearty laughter that filled any room no matter the size, and a skill that could bake any Dutch treat imaginable—to everyone’s delight. She was a wonderful, supportive, and selfless wife, mother, and grandmother who so often put others above herself.

The husband she dearly loved, Ernest Overkamp, passed away December 6, 2007. She also is predeceased by her sister Antonella, and brothers Fred, George, Lloyd, and Clayton; granddaughter, Elizabeth McPherson and grandson Ross Holt. She is survived by her children Ernest (Denise) Overkamp, Janice (Robert) Raak, Danny (Rhonna) Overkamp, and Sharla (Dennis) Pacanowski; grandchildren Dawn (Todd) Van Noord, Duane (Heather) Overkamp, Kristalyn (Jerry) Brouwer, Laura (Jeffrey) Brouwer, Aaron (Diana) Overkamp, Matthew McPherson, Coby (Drew) Sorensen, Shawn (Christy) Pacanowski, and Stacy (Bryan Ruch) Pacanowski; 41 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.

A visitation to celebrate Jean’s life and immense legacy will be held Monday, August 7, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Dykstra Funeral Home - Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue, Holland. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 8, at 11:00am, at Beechwood Reformed church, 895 Ottawa Beach Road, Holland. Reverend John Nyitray will preside over the service. Interment will be in Olive Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly suggests donations to Hospice of Holland or St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are under the auspices of the Northwood Chapel.
