Life Story / Obituary
James Edward Sebright, was born on November 30, 1932, in Watson Township, Allegan County. He passed away at the age of 92 on June 22, 2025, in Holland, MI.
James married Avis Jean Schultz on January 9, 1953. Following their wedding, James was drafted into the Army where he served as a light weapons infantryman until he was honorably discharged in 1955. Upon his return, he worked many jobs which included Spring Air Company, Lithobar, Camfield Plastics, and finally he and Avis managed apartment complexes until retirement. James and Avis were married for 72 years and had three children: Laurie, Jerry, and Cindy. James’ hobbies included spending time with his family, specifically his grandchildren. He loved teaching them the “finer things in life”, such as the art of argument, or how to properly eat whipped cream off your fingertips. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Martin & Clarabelle (Rice) Sebright of Allegan; his loving wife, Avis Sebright of Holland; daughter, Cindy Arens of Hamilton; son-in-law, Dan Arens of Hamilton; sisters, Arlene Hiscock of Allegan, and Norene Luella of Allegan.
He is survived by his daughter, Laurie Yates of Holland; son, Jerry (Carolyn) Sebright of Holland; sisters, Barb Graham of Allegan, Sue (Cliff) Tyler of Bloomindale, Brenda (David) Brant of Plainwell; brothers, Don Sebright of Allegan, Lyle Sebright of Allendale, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
