Hirtha Agnus (VanDam) Nies, 98, of Holland, Michigan passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 4 at American House Holland.

Hirtha was born in Holland, Michigan to Ben and Adeline Van Dam on June 26, 1924. She had different jobs throughout her life but worked at General Electric the longest, retiring from there when she was 62. She enjoyed camping, her dog Tuffy, latch hook rug making, cheering on UofM football, eating a Tommy Turtle and being with her family and friends.

Hirtha was most proud of being a wife, mother, and grandmother; she is survived by two children: Pam (and Don) Staat of West Olive, MI; Deb (and John) Bareman of Holland, MI. Eight grandchildren: Eric Boeve; KC Lynch; Angela (and Derick) Stegenga; Somer Bareman; Toni Boeve; Travis (and Johnna)Staat; Jamie Knoll; Leigh (and Mike) Brummel. Eighteen great grandchildren: Andrew, Alex, Maddie, Emma, Colin, Justyce, Hailey, Caleb, Brooklynn, Cayleigh, Grayson, Keaghan, Mia, Claira, Lila, Ella, Evan, Asher, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her Husband, Harry Nies, her parents, siblings and great grandson, Brett.

Visitation and Funeral service will be held at Dykstra Northwood chapel on Saturday, September 10. Visitation at 10am and service at 11am with Pastor Dennis Dufon officiating. There will be a light luncheon and fellowship after the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Of Holland, 270 Hoover Blvd, Holland, MI 49423. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Hospice Of Holland for their care and compassion during her last days.
